Frequently asked questions

About UrMac

What is UrMac?

UrMac is a Mac app that monitors CPU, GPU, memory, battery, storage, network, applications, thermal state, and sleep and wake activity, and keeps a recorded history of them. UrMac Pro adds Investigator, incidents, and reports to help you understand what changed.

What macOS versions are supported?

UrMac requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Final system requirements are confirmed on the Download page at launch.

How do I install UrMac?

UrMac isn't available to download yet. At launch, the Download page will list the available ways to get it. After installing, open UrMac and follow the short onboarding.

Plans and purchases

Is UrMac free?

Yes. UrMac Free is $0 and includes live monitoring, menu-bar monitoring, system status, resource detail, application monitoring, and basic history.

What does UrMac Pro include?

Everything in Free, plus advanced history, Investigator, performance incidents, personal baselines, advanced analytics, recommendations, and reports.

Is Pro a one-time purchase?

Yes. UrMac Pro is $24.99, a one-time purchase, and will be available at launch. It is not a subscription, and Pro stays yours after purchase.

What does UrMac AI include?

UrMac AI is $7.99/month and marked Coming Soon. UrMac AI is not part of the initial app launch. When available in a future release, it will include all Pro features while subscribed, and Ask UrMac will answer questions using evidence from your Mac's recorded activity.

Will UrMac AI require a subscription?

Yes. UrMac AI will be a subscription when it becomes available; it cannot be purchased yet. Ask UrMac will require an internet connection, and usage limits may apply.

What happens when my AI subscription expires?

Ask UrMac stops being available. If you bought UrMac Pro, you keep Pro. If you only had UrMac AI, UrMac returns to Free. Monitoring continues either way.

How do I restore a purchase on a new Mac?

Open the upgrade screen in UrMac and choose Restore Purchases.

Privacy and data

Does UrMac work offline?

Yes. Monitoring, recorded history, and Pro features run on your Mac without an internet connection. Ask UrMac needs a connection, and so do purchasing or restoring a plan.

What data stays on my Mac?

UrMac stores its monitoring history, incidents, and baselines locally on your Mac. UrMac monitors performance; it is not designed to read the contents of your documents, messages, or browsing.

Does UrMac send monitoring data to the cloud?

Monitoring and history don't rely on a cloud service. When Ask UrMac becomes available, a bounded, structured summary of the relevant evidence will be sent to the UrMac AI service only when you ask a question. The formal privacy policy will be published before launch.

Troubleshooting

Some readings aren't shown for my Mac

Available readings depend on your hardware and what macOS reports. For example, battery details appear only on Macs with a battery, and some health values are shown only where reported.

My history has gaps

UrMac records while it is running. Periods when your Mac was asleep or UrMac wasn't recording are shown as unrecorded rather than as zero activity.

Why can't I use Ask UrMac yet?

UrMac AI is coming soon and is not part of the initial app launch. Ask UrMac will be available in a future release.

Pro features aren't unlocked after purchase

Open the upgrade screen and choose Restore Purchases while connected to the internet.

Privacy help

UrMac keeps its monitoring history on your Mac. Ask UrMac sends a bounded summary of relevant evidence only when you ask a question.
